Chevy Nichols Memorial Scholarship Adopted by Skate Idaho (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit)

Purpose

The Chevy Nichols Memorial Scholarship is established to honor the legacy of Chevy Nichols by supporting young skateboarders in Idaho who demonstrate personal growth, community engagement, and a commitment to education or creative development. This scholarship reflects Skate Idaho’s mission to foster inclusive, respectful, and empowering skateboarding spaces.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident of Idaho

  • Be between the ages of 16 and 21

  • Be a skateboarder (all ability levels welcome)

  • Plan to pursue educational, vocational, or creative development

  • Submit all required application materials by the stated deadline

Selection Criteria

Recipients will be selected based on:

  • Community involvement and leadership

  • Personal growth through skateboarding

  • Reflection on mental health and well-being

  • Alignment with Skate Idaho’s values and mission

  • Quality and completeness of application materials

Selection Process

  • Applications will be reviewed by a Scholarship Committee appointed by Skate Idaho’s Board of Directors.

  • Committee members must disclose any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from decisions involving personal connections.

  • Final decisions will be made by majority vote and documented for transparency.

  • Donors may not participate in the selection process.

Award Details

  • One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded annually.

  • Funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s school or educational institution.

  • The award is not transferable and may not be paid to individuals or used for non-educational purposes.

  • Funds distribution will be at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.

Legal and Ethical Compliance

Skate Idaho will:

  • Administer the scholarship in accordance with IRS guidelines for 501(c)(3) organizations

  • Ensure the program serves a charitable purpose and benefits a broad, indefinite class

  • Avoid discrimination based on race, gender, religion, or other protected categories

  • Maintain records of all applications, reviews, and award decisions

  • Publicize the scholarship to ensure fair and open access

Timeline

  • Application Open/Deadline: January 1st/March 1st

  • Review Period: March 2nd-March 31st

  • Recipient Announced: April 6th

  • Funds Disbursed: Upon confirmation of enrollment from the recipient’s institution and the start of the semester/program.

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed annually by Skate Idaho’s Board of Directors and updated as needed to reflect best practices and legal requirements.
