The Chevy Nichols Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Chevy Nichols — a skater known for his passion, perseverance, and the way he lifted up everyone around him. Chevy wasn’t just dedicated to skateboarding; he was dedicated to people. His kindness, creativity, and commitment to the skate community continue to inspire us.

This scholarship supports young individuals in Idaho who, like Chevy, use skateboarding as a tool for personal growth, resilience, and positive impact.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident of Idaho

  • Be between the ages of 16 and 21

  • Be a skateboarder — all ability levels are welcome

  • Demonstrate active involvement in skateboarding (skating, organizing, mentoring, or advocating)

  • Plan to pursue educational, vocational, or creative development (e.g., college, trade school, art programs, certifications) in the state of Idaho.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated based on:

  • Community Engagement: Contributions to the skateboarding community or broader local efforts

  • Personal Growth: How skateboarding has influenced their life, mindset, or goals

  • Leadership & Initiative: Examples of mentorship, event participation, or advocacy

  • Vision for the Future: How the scholarship will help them grow, give back, or pursue meaningful goals

  • Mental Health Reflection: Insight into how skateboarding has supported their mental health and well-being

Application Materials

Applicants must submit:

    • Personal Statement (700–1,000 words)

    • Essay

      • Prompt: “Push Through: Skateboarding and Mental Health”

        • Share your skateboarding journey and reflect on:

        • How skateboarding has impacted your mental health

        • What does skateboarding mean to you personally

        • How do you plan to use the scholarship to pursue your future goals

    • Letter of Recommendation

    • From a teacher, coach, mentor, or community member

    • Optional Creative Submission

    • Photos, videos, or artwork that showcase your involvement in skateboarding

Award Details

  • One recipient will be selected annually

  • Scholarship amount: $1,000

  • Funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s school or educational institution
    Funds distribution at the discretion of the Skate Idaho Scholarship Committee.
