Empowering the Next Generation: Our Incredible Day at Pathway Aquiline Academy

At the heart of what we do at Skate Idaho is a commitment to community, growth, and sharing our passion for skateboarding with the people who inspire us most. Recently, we had the absolute privilege of visiting the students and staff at Pathway Aquiline Academy (PWAA) to give a presentation about our project and share our journey.

For those who might not be familiar with their incredible work, Pathway Aquiline Academy is a unique, highly structured Skills Training and Development (STAD) program. They provide a safe, electronics-free, and nurturing environment where students balance academics with crucial therapeutic and life-skills interventions. Their philosophy is beautifully summed up by their namesake: “The eagle does not escape the storm. The eagle simply uses the storm to lift it higher.”

Stepping into that environment, we knew we were in for a special day.

Sharing the Vision: Skateboarding, Community, and Resilience

Armed with our latest slideshow, we got the chance to walk the students through the Skate Idaho project, our core vision, and how the dedication required for skateboarding applies to real-world growth and perseverance. Because PWAA focuses heavily on hands-on experiences, life skills, and accountability, it was the absolute perfect audience for us.

During our presentation, we dove into several key topics with the kids:

  • Overcoming Obstacles: We talked openly about the trials and falls—both on a skateboard and in life—and what it takes to build something meaningful from the ground up.

  • The Power of Skateboarding: We shared how the skate community fosters an unmatched sense of connection, creativity, and mental resilience.

  • Local Action: We discussed our push for local skateparks, skate spots, and how creating these safe recreational spaces gives youth a positive outlet to channel their energy.

The students weren’t just listening—they were truly engaged. In an environment that explicitly teaches responsibility and moving past the phrase “I can’t,” these kids brought a vibrant energy that made presenting an absolute joy.

Feedback That Moves Us Forward

As presenters, we always hope our message lands well, but the response from this visit truly blew us away. Shortly after the presentation, while the academy was out on a field trip, we received this incredibly heartwarming note from Brad Samuelson at PWAA:

“I can’t thank you enough for coming and presenting to our kids. The feedback has been great. We’re on a field trip right now and I talked to them about it on the way here. They all had nothing but great things to say about you and your project. Thank you again so much and you have an awesome day my friend. – Brad”

Knowing that the students were actively discussing Skate Idaho on their bus ride, and that our vision resonated so deeply with them, is the highest praise we could ever ask for.

Looking Ahead

We are so incredibly grateful to Brad and the entire team at Pathway Aquiline Academy for welcoming us with open arms, and to the brilliant students who gave us their time and attention. Keep an eye out for those Skate Idaho flyers making their way home!

Building strong community connections and fostering healthy relationships is exactly why we do what we do. We look forward to watching these students continue to spread their wings and soar like eagles—and we can’t wait for our next opportunity to collaborate!
